Denim Insulation
Using high-quality cotton as its primary ingredient, denim insulation is made of 85% post-industrial recycled content. Inherent qualities within these fibers make for extremely effective sound absorption and maximum thermal performance. Plus, it is very easy to handle and work; it DOES NOT ITCH! There are no chemical irritants, fiberglass, or VOC concerns, and is thus safe for you and the environment. It can be ordered with an R-value of 13 or 19. (R-value is a measure of the capacity of a material, such as insulation, to impede heat flow, with increasing values indicating a greater capacity). As a Class-A Building Product it meets the highest ASTM testing standards for fire and smoke ratings, fungi resistance and anti-corrosiveness, making it an ideal choice as a high quality sustainable building material. By installing this product you can also earn several LEED™ credits as you make both your building and the environment a safer place to live, work in, and enjoy.
Energy Systems: Solar Energy
It’s a great time to Go Solar! Getting energy from the sun is nothing new, but finding affordable and efficient systems is finally becoming a reality. There are now cost-effective solar systems available to –
- assist in heating your house via radiant floor systems that fit under any standard flooring material including tile, cork, bamboo and hardwood.
- heat your domestic water (even hotter than standard electric or gas water heaters).
- heat the water in your pool and/or spa
- convert sunlight into electricity to power everything in your home. Most common are utility grid-tied systems, which allow you to sell power to the utility when you’re using less than your system is producing! And, if conditions warrant, you can go “off the grid” completely by using battery storage. You can even save money with state tax credits and additional rebates (Federal tax credits also exist for commercial applications) which can cut purchase costs of these systems in half while you save energy, upgrade your home and help protect the environment.
Active solar systems (systems that collect solar energy by “active” means with equipment such as panels of photovoltaic cells) are now designed to supplement and even replace increasingly expensive grid electricity. Panels are a proven application, with new technologies such as screens and roof shingles advancing rapidly. Hot water from solar-thermal rooftop panels is another highly cost effective active solar technology. In addition to providing domestic hot water, it can also heat your house when combined with a radiant floor system. We can order photovoltaic and solar thermal panels, radiant flooring and all required support equipment as well as arrange for expert installation to suit your needs.
Energy Efficient Lighting
The quantity and quality of light around us determines how well we see, work, and play. It affects our health and safety as well as our comfort and productivity. Lighting also directly affects our economy. As a nation, we spend about one-quarter of our electricity budget on lighting, or more than $37 billion annually. Technologies developed during the past 10 years can help us cut lighting costs up to 70% while enhancing lighting quality and reducing environmental impacts. Livingreen carries energy efficient light bulbs, compact fluorescents, LED bulbs, and energy efficient lighting systems for both residential and commercial needs.
For completely natural lighting in tight spaces where a standard skylight won’t fit, 10” or 14” diameter Solatubes can bring affordable, increased daylight into the home. Their compact design allows for easy installation, fitting between rafters without any structural modifications.
Water Filtration
While most people are aware of the importance of drinking purified water, skin also absorbs all unfiltered toxins through hand washing, shower and bath water – an important consideration if you desire to create as healthy a home environment as possible. We sell a whole house 3-stage water filtration system that goes far beyond simple reverse osmosis to filter, dechlorinate and condition the water at your home or business.
